How to Organize Craft Supplies in a Small Space

This is a subtitle for your new post

If you’ve been wondering how to organize craft supplies in a small space, you are not alone. Regardless of the space you have, organizing craft supplies is always a struggle.

HOW TO ORGANIZE CRAFT SUPPLIES IN A SMALL SPACE

When was the last time you looked at all of the craft supplies that you have on hand? If you are like many of us, we love keeping our craft area stocked with a vast amount of supplies, however, not always is excess storage an option!

Believe it or not, you are not alone in your desire to have plenty of craft accessories on hand! We all do! I, myself, have a really hard time walking past any clearance or sales areas in my local craft stores. There is always something that I feel I “must” have.

The only issue with that though is there is only so much room in the area I have set up for my craft space and the fact it’s starting to pile into another area isn’t good.

That’s why since the new year is quickly approaching, I thought it would be a great idea to go through my own supplies and to organize them and share some tips with you that worked great for me.

HOW DO I EVEN START ORGANIZING MY SPACE?

The first step in organizing is to start with a clean area.

Clear off a spot where you can put all of your supplies, like for example, your kitchen table or work table.

Then remove everything out of your cabinet, off of your bookcase, or anywhere you store all of your items.

Once your storage area is cleaned out, deep clean the area. Whether it be dusting, sweeping, wiping down, it is a good idea to start with a clean surface.

DECLUTTERING CRAFT ROOM

Now that your craft storage area is clean, it’s time to sort..

Dedicate three boxes or storage totes to use for sorting. Label one keep, the other one discard and the last one donate.

A good place to start first is your craft paint. Go through and make sure that it hasn’t dried up or has gone bad. If it has, throw it into the discard pile.

Next, go through your stamp ink. Has it dried up as well? Does it need to be replaced? If it’s still good but you aren’t into using rubber stamps anymore, put it in the donate pile. An organization, like the local schools or preschools in your area, may be able to use the donation.

Do you have any spray adhesives or glue? If so, sort through that and make sure it is still usable.

How about your markers? Do they still work?

Continue this process and go through all of the different items you have pulled out of their storage area.

Once you have gone through everything, it’s time to move on to the next step.

ORGANIZING SMALL CRAFT SPACES

Now comes the fun part - organizing!

1. Storing Craft Paint and Spray Adhesives

Let’s be honest, craft paint and spray bottles take up a lot of room! One wouldn’t think those bottles would, but when you consider they are round and you can’t stack them, they really take up a lot of real estate.

That’s why our Craft Paint Storage and Organizer works perfectly. After you’ve filed it, just hang it on the back of your closet door. Now, it’s organized, out of sight, and not taking up any space.

2. Organizing your Ink Pads

This is where cute storage bins come in handy. Many of the dollar stores have these in bundles for a couple of dollars. These work wonderfully.

3. Best Way to Store Vinyl

If you are a Cricut crafter, then you know what it’s like to store your vinyl. They really don’t stack the best either.

That’s where my Deluxe Roll Keeper comes in handy! You can store 48 rolls on this! And the best part is, you can hang it behind your closet door and no one can see it!

4. How to Store Your Fabric

If you are a fabric fan, or as my husband says, have an obsession for buying fabric, your storage area may be overflowing with fabric quarters.

Sure, fabric is easier to store, but it still takes up a lot of space. That’s why our Deco Mesh Roll Keeper not only works great for clothing, BUT it also works great for rolls of fabric!

And like with our other products, you can easily store the keeper behind your closet door or any door in fact, and no one can see your fabric stash.

5. How Do You Declutter Scrapbook Supplies

If you are overwhelmed with all of those paper scrapbook supplies, maybe it’s time to let some of it go.

Supplies like these are always readily accepted by preschools. When I decided to let go of that hobby, I donated all of my supplies to the preschool where my kids went. The kids and staff definitely put good use to those supplies.

If you still have additional items that need put away, cute storage boxes work great for this. They can sit on bookshelves and fit in with your décor. Or you can stack them on the shelves in your closet.

With just a little bit of planning and a few hours, you can have your little craft area organized and ready to head into the new year.
